TWELVE GATES TO COMPLETENESS IN CHRIST

Have you ever wondered if there is more to the Christian life than you are experiencing right now? You are not alone. Many people come to Christ and have their sins forgiven, but then wonder, “What now?” The Bible makes it abundantly clear that becoming “complete in Christ” (Colossians 2:28) or “conformed to the image of his Son” (Romans 8:29) is God’sultimate goal and will for every person.

Unfortunately, most of our churches do not express this same sense of priority, urgency, and intentionality that the writers of the New Testament express so passionately. It seems that the task of developing followers of Christ is left to some sort of “spiritual osmosis”—keep coming to church and somehow what you need will rub off on you.

Instead of leaving spiritual growth up to chance, GateWay Church has developed ™Twelve Gates to Completeness in Christ. In the book of Revelation, we see the consummation of God’s redemptive purposes in the unveiling of the New Jerusalem, a walled city with Twelve Gates—a picture of the redeemed community of God in its completeness.

Interestingly, the Bible also compares the individual to a city with walls (Proverbs 25:28). So we have taken the imagery of the twelve gates and applied it to twelve key areas in which Christians need to grow in order to be complete in Christ. And since Christ is Lord of all of life—not just those areas we consider “spiritual”—we have included “gates” to equip believers in the areas of their finances, vocation, relationships, and worldview. Having gleaned from some of the best sources of discipleship material in existence today, we have identified the following Twelve Gates to Completeness in Christ:

Entering New Life in Christ
Knowing the Bible
Understanding Doctrine
Experiencing God
Knowing Yourself
Appreciating the Church
Developing a Christian Worldview
Restoring Relationships
Redeeming the MarketPlace
Mastering Stewardship
Embracing Spiritual Disciplines
Sharing the Good News with Others

In order to maximize the impact each of these Gates can have on your life, we are endeavoring to discover what in the business world is called “best practice” and bring it to you. So to equip you in Developing a Christian Worldview, we offer Focus on the Family’s newly developed, cutting edge Truth Project. For Mastering Stewardship, we have found no materials better than Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. And for Knowing the Bible, in our Women’s ministry, we have found Beth Moore’s materials to be unparalleled.

So how about you? Are you ready to become complete in all that God has called you to be?
